Kinja'd!!!

I did attract cops a couple of times but they follow for a few seconds and they go away (still driving the same way as when they initiated the pursuit), or they stop me but don't give any tickets nor asking my papers...and you guessed it, it's when I'm driving the Miata. I had tons of weird excuses (and a few that we're actually my doing...) with the 3 about why they pulled me over. So oppo, ever had a car that seemed invisible to cops? Good night y'all btw!

I had a red 2005 Dodge Caravan SWB. Totally invisible to cops.

Well my candy apple red 67 Mustang is invisible to cops on the highway/freeway... Partly because I'm taching like 4000 rpm at 65 so I don't tend to speed. Hehehe

I don't even know how cops work here in Brazil, to be honest. There's none of the pulling over and sermon giving we see on Cops, and they don't seem to care if you park in the middle of fucking Ipiranga Avenue, for that matter, so I've never had anyone to give excuses to in the four times I was ticketed for speeding, the ticket was just caught on camera and mailed to my place.

Oddly enough, none of those tickets were taken with the Tipo, which is arguably, the best of my family's cars for spirited driving. In fact, that car hasn't had a single ticket in its 18 years run. It's odd really, almost as if it could beat the radar.

are the Brazil police really all armed to the teeth like I see in documentaries?

Nope, not really. I believe the trrop you are referring to is the BOPE, which is our SWAT equivalent. All other police forces just look kinda like this:

Kinja'd!!!

And drive cars like this Corsa here:

Kinja'd!!!

So, nothing too impressive. The Highway Patrol usually drives larger cars or trucks/SUVs to carry their extra equipment, but this is pretty much it.

Also, IIRC, there are a few differences between the Police here in Rio Grande do Sul and in the rest of the country because the police down here is actually part of the army, and not its own organization, or something like that.

Back when I lived in Texas, I had the Evo in the shop for an insurance claim and was driving a silver Nissan Altima as a rental. I got pulled over 2 times in that frikkin Altima (no tickets, though), but no one ever bothered me in the red Evo.

One of the cops even laughed that I had a spotless driving record, drove and Evo as my regular car, yet get pulled over in a rental Altima. :(

I hated that car.

fair enough, there seems to be a bit of a western filter over Brazil that makes it seem like it's all gang violence, carnival, the Amazon and football.

probably a discussion for another time though.

My second Corolla was pretty invisible to cops some of the time, and before I lowered the first one I was invisible.

They would pull me over in either to complain about my exhaust or rideheight.

Never got a ticket in that car, did get a court summons for a rather long burnout.

My Mothers Red 2004 Hyundai Matrix is invisible to the police here. I have been followed several times , but not pulled over .. even though I am doing around 95 mph.
It would be the perfect stealth mobile if it wasn't for the handling...or gearbox...or engine...or styling .....or anything ...
hmmm

I'm thoroughly perplexed by my lack of attention from the cops. I used to drive a 2000 Isuzu Trooper, maroon, and got every stupid ticket known to man. I got a ticket for window tint, going right on red at a little past midnight on an empty road and not coming to a complete stop(which by the way is considered running a red light and is a $300 fine here as well as 4 points), and tons of speeding tickets.

Now my daily is a 2004 RX8, lightning yellow of course, and I've never even had a cop flash his lights at me, I drive wayyyy more aggressively than I ever did in the trooper, have the same percent tint on it, and I thought my luck would change once it got more aggressive stance and the full exhaust, but I guess not.

Seems driving a retired mom car(what I see other ones around town being owned by) pays off.

It isn't much better than that, really. Brazil is a fundamentally broken down, messed up pile of crap trying to sell the illusion that it'll eventually become "first world" when it actually has zero infrastructure and nothing really works down here. The public health system is a joke, the ecucation system is inexistent and public safety means having a spare 50 bucks to hand out to robbers so you don't get shot or burned in a pile of tires for not having any money on you. People talk about how the country stayed strong during the last few economic crisis, but that's hardly relevant when all that money we don't have is going into some politician's pockets insted of, I dunno, hospitals, schools, training, whatever.

And the fact that the government somehow has money to invest in a fucking soccer world cup while hospitals fall apart around the medics and police officers are murdered at home for being cops is just the icing on the bullshit cake we call Brazil.

So, there, that's how much I love my country.

Cost of it.

Getting the harness made.

getting it done in the first place.

and money was the biggest factor, as I was making plenty of money to do a 4age swap but I had a bitch girlfriend who wanted me to buy all sorts of shit.

But either way, that car was still a sleeper, minus the noise, I could eat honda's and I kept up with GSR Integras Which I felt was good enough for a Corolla lol

My grandma has every ticket to date from me hung on the fridge, she claims its to make me feel bad or guilt me into stop speeding and stuff, its not working.

There is some sense of pride when I see on the fridge "Misuse Of Power" Or "55 in a 30" Or "89 in a 65" "Exhaust Noise" "stop sign violation"

I'm not sure why, but everyone I've gotten dismissed in court, cause I know what to say and stuff.

Sooooo Its like hey I got away with all of this.

I just know what to say, how to word things, and it gets me what I want most of the time.

My issue is I could not be a lawyer as I have a stutter. It's pretty bad sometimes, like when I've gone to court for things, talking to the Magistrate I stutter and stuff and he's like the fuck.

Yeah, my current car actually. It's a rather plain car in a bright red shade, and it's low. It's a four cylinder & has a turbo back 3" exhaust, but it's muffled properly. I either have cops ignore me, or they roll up behind me late night when no one else is on the road and run my plates, see nothing interesting and peel off. Except for the one in an undercover suburban that had to swerve to avoid me because I braked for the light and he was tailgating running my plates. I surmise he was looking at his computer screen and didn't see it go yellow. He took off wuick when it went green, maybe he was embarrassed.

I used to have an old 95 pontiac grand am. It was ridiculous the things I'd do with it, and it never got pulled over once.

Then there was the old baby blue Geo Prizm I borrowed from my grandfather for a while in between cars. I actually got pulled over once with that and couldnt find the registration or insurance. No joke thw cop to a step back looked at the car and said to me that he felt bad for me because the tickets would cost more than the car so he'd just let me go.

Moral of the story, cops feel bad for people in beaters.

Kinja'd!!! BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion > Hermann

Kinja'd!!!1

I guess it's more of a regional thing then. I've gotten my fair share of tickets, but even when it wasn't a Pardal, but cops with a truck and a radar, I was never pulled over.

Though, now that you mention it, back in 94 or 95, I remember two occasions when my dad got pulled over during family trips, his first two speeding tickets. But I haven't seen the cops do that in a quite a while.

Kinja'd!!! Hermann > BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion
10/25/2013 at 11:28

Kinja'd!!!1

TBH I've never been ticketed for speeding or something. The only ticket I've ever got was because the previous owner of the Astra had signed the docs 30 days before I got to transfer the car to my name. And even though it wasn't my fault, this is one of those tickets you can't put on another person's name. This was when I still lived at my parents, in Paraná.

But may be a regional thing. Cops behave different in every place, depends on their command, mostly. I've never been pulled over here in São Paulo to know how they are here. But there are LOTS of radars and cameras.

Kinja'd!!! BlazinAce - Doctor of Internal Combustion > Hermann
10/25/2013 at 11:46

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, same here. Radars and Cameras are far more likely to catch you than cops in my area, so that may be a reason why I never got pulled over; there are never any cops in sight.

Oddly enough, my Tipo has yet to receive his first ticket (or any other citation, for that matter), and that car has been in service for almost 20 years. 20 years without a single infraction...
